Software Updates
Laika checks for updates automatically and notifies you when new versions are available.
Update Notifications
Section titled “Update Notifications”When an update is available, the Help menu shows:
Help → Check for Updates (⚠ Update Available)
Click to see update details: version number, release date, and changelog.
Installing Updates
Section titled “Installing Updates”Recommended process:
- Note your current configuration (active pads, custom layouts)
- Close Laika
- Download the installer from fetchmedia.tools
- Run the installer (overwrites the old version)
- Launch the new version
- Verify your configuration and pads loaded correctly
Your configuration files and custom layouts persist across updates — they’re stored separately from the application.
Update Best Practices
Section titled “Update Best Practices”When to update:
- During downtime (not 10 minutes before a live show)
- After reading the changelog for breaking changes
- When you need a specific bug fix or feature
When NOT to update:
- Immediately before a critical production
- If the current version is stable and working for your workflow
- Without testing on a non-production machine first (for large facilities)
Backup strategy:
Before major updates:
- Export all custom layouts (Layout → Manage Custom Layouts → Export)
- Document your current pads and source assignments
- Keep the old installer available for rollback if needed
