QC and the Error Log
The Error Log tile is Vector’s quality-control surface. It summarises the frame on screen and updates every frame.
The Panel
Section titled “The Panel”Error Log shows a title and four checks, in this order.
| Row | Readout |
|---|---|
| ERROR LOG | the title |
| LUMA | {min}-{max}%, the darkest and brightest sampled luma, one decimal |
| GAMUT | {pct}% OUT, the share of sampled pixels outside the error gamut |
| BLACK | {measured} / {threshold}%, the brightest examined pixel against the threshold |
| BLANK | {rows} ROWS {cols} COLS, then the offending edges as T, B, L and R with the run’s first and last line |
Every row is the same type size, so the panel grows with Text size. It is on the QC layout.
Set the LUMA row first: the band admits every level until you narrow it.
The Three Verdicts
Section titled “The Three Verdicts”A row has one of three states, and its flag is a color with no word.
- Pass: the check ran and found nothing, and shows a filled green rectangle one glyph wide.
- Fail: the check found something, or ran and examined nothing, and the flag is a filled red rectangle.
- Off: nothing was asked to look. The flag is empty and the whole row is in muted ink.
Three words are the panel’s own:
- OFF where a check’s own box is off.
- NOT CHECKED where a check ran and examined no pixel, in the failure color.
- QC DISABLED in place of the whole panel when the family is off.
The panel measures its own three rows, LUMA, GAMUT and BLANK, whenever it shows them.
The Checks and Their Thresholds
Section titled “The Checks and Their Thresholds”- LUMA fails when at least 0.5% of sampled pixels are outside the legal band, the Luma limits pair of 0.0 and 100.0% at stock.
- GAMUT fails on the same 0.5%, against the error gamut, DCI-P3 at stock. Pick it on the CIE Plot kind’s Error gamut row, which shows while Out-of-gamut is on. It always uses Rec.709 primaries, so the caveat on the Gamut, Legality and Exposure page applies here too.
- BLACK measures the brightest examined pixel in percent of full scale over the whole frame, and fails at or below the threshold. Set it with Black at, which starts at 0.0%.
- BLANK fails on one blank row or one blank column, on the same terms on both axes, so a pillarboxed frame fails. A line is blank when no sampled pixel on it shows light.
LUMA and BLANK use the frame’s own matrix claim.
The Switches
Section titled “The Switches”Black frame, Dead pixel and Flicker are on at stock, and Chroma arm and Black at are shown only while their own check is on.
Chroma arm checks chroma as well as luma, catching a saturation or hue flip that does not change the luma. Its hover text puts the cost at up to 33 MB at 1080p.
Flicker has its own tile, Flicker Heatmap, with cells 32 source pixels a side. Its legend shows 0% and 100% over the line SHARE OF CELL FLICKERING, 15 FRAMES, and with no raster it shows NOT CHECKED or FLICKER CHECK OFF.
A dead pixel differs from its neighbours by 10.0% of full scale over 4 consecutive frames, and a 4 px block counts as one defect.
The PSE Thresholds
Section titled “The PSE Thresholds”The same pane has a second section, PSE analysis, with the rows Display, Peak white at 200 cd/m², Flash at at 20 cd/m², Coverage at 25% and Flashes at 3 Hz. The Inputs and Outputs page has the display the analysis assumes and the two metrics it cannot measure.
What You Can Save
Section titled “What You Can Save”The family runs whenever the scope does. Change what it looks for on the Scope Properties pane, then check the four rows.
Save scope screenshot saves a PNG of the window’s next painted frame, cropped to the tile the screen last showed.
